Plants Poisonous to Cats

One of my favorite parts of the holidays has always been displaying forests of poinsettias on my fireplace, but since I've learned these colorful plants may be hazardous to cats, I hang them from our balcony instead. Actually, poinsettias are not as toxic as previously thought, except for one variety native to Hawaii. A Cornell veterinaran says “at worst [poinsettia] will cause irritation of the mouth, excess salivation and perhaps vomiting

Cats Pictures of the Week are selected from general photo submittals. Lucy's photo was submitted for - and also appears in the December 2007 Red Cats Gallery. This photo is adorable and captures a somewhat mischievous look in Lucy's eyes. I love Gwen's motivations for adopting Lucy, as well as her realization that Lucy is not a "replacement" for Cindy, but loving in her own way.

This is pussy. I think you can tell from her picture she's a bit of a nut! Or rather, she's very personable and has a great sense of humour. She and her sister Emily have been family members since April 2006 and we have cherished watching them grow up. We are still waiting for them to act like adults, however!
